Invite Positive Energy Into Your Home

Home should be your sanctuary. If your home has felt less than inviting recently, there are a few things you can do to change this! Freshen up your home with these tips on keeping negative energy out, and inviting positive energy in:

Feng shui

It can be overwhelming deciding where to start this process in the home, but it is recommended to start in your entryway; your entry represents how energy enters your home. You want to start by cleaning and decluttering this area, which tends to be overlooked. Make sure it is also a well lit area, and if necessary, and some lights to the space.

One of the most important principles in feng shui is the commanding position. It is thought that this principle is how you can position yourself in life. The most important places to apply this principle are to the location of your bed, desk, and stove. When you are lying in bed, sitting at your desk, or cooking at the stove, you want to have a clear sight of the door, even if this means you end up diagonally positioned from the door. It might seem odd, but this has its benefits; when you are in a commanding position, you are in command of your life. In this position, it is the best place to receive positive energy and the best opportunities.

Smudging

What is smudging?

Smudging is one of the ways to energetically cleanse a space to invite in positive energy. When you smudge a space, you burn plant material, such as white sage or juniper. The smoke from this plant material purifies the environment, thus cleansing it of any negative energy.

What materials do I need?

To get started smudging your home, you will need:

  • Smudge Stick- there are a few different kinds of plant material that can be burned; the most popular are white sage, juniper, or sweet grass.

  • Matches- to get you started lighting your smudge stick

  • Fireproof Container- to keep your smudge stick ashes to burn in

  • Candle- sometimes your smudge stick may not stay lit, and having a candle nearby to light it up again when it starts to go out can be helpful!

  • Bowl of Sand- when you want to put out your smudge stick, you stick it in the bowl of sand to put it out.

How do I smudge a space?

Start at the front door of the home and light your smudge stick. Then, begin to move around the home. Move mindfully and with care, walking clockwise around the entire perimeter of the home. Be sure to allow the smoke to drift into even the hidden spaces, like inside closets, basements and dark corners. If there are stairs, just go up or down when you encounter them. Then keep moving clockwise until you meet the stairs again. Then continue to go down or up the stairs and resume the main floor.

How often should I smudge?

It is recommended to smudge every time you move, when you want to make a positive change, or even on a regular basis to keep the good energy flowing.

Incense

Incense

Similar to smudging, incense can also give clarity and peace to a space. It is the easiest way to use the power of herbs to purify the energy in your home - all you have to do is light it and leave it!

Make sure you are buying quality incense though, and don’t fall for the cheapest price. Cheap incense can have artificial components that can cause headaches and will simply not work as well as a higher quality one.

I hope these recommendations help bring you some much needed peace in these hard times! We can all feel in a rut sometimes, but doing these simple tips can help keep your life fresh and let the positivity flow freely.
